For those who were there last Thursday, you know most of the details. For those who were not, here are the ones you need to know:
These injuries can happen in dance. But we would still like to minimise the frequency and severity. One way to minimise both is to ensure that you dance as instructed. Ballroom is, despite what many might assume, the most dangerous of partner dances - if lifts and dips are excluded. That is why, in class, we talk so much about the right frame to ensure that people dance with the right alignment and connection. Therefore, please, when you are next in dance class, focus on ensuring you always dance with the right embrace. Never, let the figure compromise the embrace. If you can't do the figure without compromising the embrace, then do not dance the figure. The same goes for your partner. If you feel unsafe dancing with them, then ask (if following) or say (if leading) that only simple figures will be done. You are entitled to choose not to dance with someone if you feel unsafe with them or if you feel they are not safe for themselves. Another way to minimise both the frequency and severity of an injury to the foot is to wear proper footwear. Closed toe shoes (ballroom ladies shoes are closed toe - while Latin ladies shoes may be open toed) will prevent your toe nail from catching on another shoe. Suede soles (in the case of leads especially) lack the grip and geometry to catch a toe nail should it be exposed. Also, the soft soles allow less pressure to be placed on a partners foot should you stand on in. And the thinner sole gives a person a better sensation of what is underfoot so your instinct to lift your foot - and prevent injury to another if you apply pressure to their foot - can be better utilised. Therefore, if you have been dancing for some time, then you should have proper dance shoes and dance with a proper frame. And, regardless of how long you have been dancing for, ensure you are dancing within your and and your partner's ability. Thank you for reading this and now choosing to take action to ensure your own and other dancers' safety.

Did you know that there are two major events coming up. One in two weeks and the other in two months.
But first, group classes for this week:
And remember that the first awards night for the year is on May 1. Check with your teacher this week about it. I will also soon be setting up a link on the website so that friends and family - and of course all others who are not going for an award - can get a ticket to come along. See you on the dance floor Clint Dance classes this week:
A social this Saturday - We are back are Carnegie Hall! You can read more here - https://www.facebook.com/events/253194987650158 - but the key details are:
See you on the dance floor Clint First off - thanks to those who came to the bachata (and street Latin) event on Saturday. It is good when a group of us go, and it is also good to see everyone being able to use and enjoy what they learn in class. Not only that, but Hank came and talked to me about it and said how much he likes having us there - so winners all round.
Group classes this week:
And now let's talk about another social event. Lock in March 2 for Blush and Carnegie hall - https://www.facebook.com/events/253194987650158. We have seen them before and they are fun to dance to, but not trivia this time it seems. Still fun though. And then after that at some time we will got to a tango event at NFT - https://www.facebook.com/ProjectNFT - for a welcoming tango experience. Second, because a few students have been asking for a street Latin social outing, this Saturday we will be going the a Bachata Conexion event. See the details here - www.facebook.com/events/1023008692326185. But the key points are:
See you on the dance floor Clint We are now back to the usual group dance program where we stick with dances for 6 weeks. The classes this week, and for the next 6 weeks to come, are:

Finally, if you know someone who wants to learn to dance, then let them know about out 4 week program - https://www.destinedance.com.au/intro-4weeks.html. It is an excellent low risk way to explore dance. See you on the dance floor Clint The studio is opening tonight for 2024.
Group classes this week are:
Check the home page out for styles taught over the next few weeks before we get back into the 6 week cycle. Speaking of - please share the 4 week program that starts at the same time with anyone you know who is keen to learn dance - https://www.destinedance.com.au/intro-4weeks.html. It's a good way for people to try out dance and it's an important way we bring in more people to the studio. Please also recall that prices have changed for this year. You can see the details below:
If you are going to subscribe to the ongoing group classes, then today is the ideal time to start up your subscription. Note - you will need to do this. All subscriptions were cancelled at the end of last year. See you on the dance floor Clint We start classes for the year on the 15th - that's one week away! This week, if you are a private student, your teacher should get in touch with you to organise your regular lessons. If you are a group class student and you want to subscribe to all classes, then you can do so here - https://www.destinedance.com.au/group-lessons.html Note. There has been an increase in prices to accommodate increasing costs for staff. But I have kept things competitive with other studios. Also, we still have the discount for uni-students and retirees doing privates and there is a discount if you buy 10 private lessons at once. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on what they would like to learn. I was not able to accommodate all requests, but I did my best to put together a suite of lessons over the next few weeks that will cover most of what was desired. Please take a look at the website home page to see what we will be learning. Also, you can see that the dates for the awards have gone up - go check them out. Regards Clint |
